thman tops girls coaching list, Letsch makes move in boys list

With the end of another season, the all-time coaching records list got some updating today.

Guthman on top

The biggest mover is on the girls side as Owen-Withee coach Al Guthman passed Milwaukee Washington's Pam Kruse for the all-time lead in wins.  Guthman's record now stands at 590-279, Kruse retired with 587 wins.

Jim Myers from Barneveld held on to third all-time increasing his record to 577-123 this season.  Jumping into the top ten were Ted Alberson of Flambeau (502-79), Jeff Schweitzer of Columbus (494-162) and Tom Klawitter of Janesville Parker (485-87).   Jeff Pustina put the first 29 win season in the WIAA to good use jumping to 12th all-time with a 473-99 mark.

In his last season Kevin Keen snuck in at number 24th all-time with a 397-127 girls varsity record.

Other active girls coaches in the all-time top 25 include:  Ron Donahoe, Ithaca (13, 471-201); Joe Doucette, Colfax (17, 438-94); Bruce Heckmann, Shoreland Lutheran (19, 436-199); Lee LeMahieu, Ozaukee (20, 418-164); Jeff Kind Middleton (21, 415-214).

Letch moves to fifth

Longtime Racine St. Catherine's coach Bob Letsch had quite a year.  In addition to the announcement that he would be inducted into the WBCA Hall of Fame's 2010 class he took home another D3 state championship.  His 550-210 career record is good for fifth all-time.

Jerry Petitgoue extended his win total and furthered himself from second all-time with a 772-194 record over 42 seasons.  Tom Desotell, the only other active coach in the top 20, is now 9th all time with a 536-202 mark.

Of note, Bob Haffele of Randolph extended his all-time mark to 438-61 in his 19th season.  His .878 winning percentage is tops all-time for boys high school varsity coaches in Wisconsin.
