WBCA All-State Division 4 Girls

Thresia Elskamp from Potosi was the leading vote-getter for the 2009 Division 4 WBCA All-State team.

Elskamp, a 5-8 senior, was the leading scorer at over 11 per game for a Potosi squad that has advanced to the state tournament for just the second time in school history.  Elskamp played a solid floor game and was a terror on defense (over 3 steals per game) for the Chieftains as they went undefeated in the Six Rivers-West en route to a 24-1 overall record.

The rest of the Division 4 WBCA All-State team consisted of Brooke Allen, Barneveld; Rachel Brown, Saint Mary Central; Paige Butler, Black Hawk; Kimee Chandler, Pecatonica; Janey Emery, Siren; Shyla Kuehl, Hustisford; Jamie Kok, Central Wisconsin Christian; Jamie Vandenberg, Niagara; Kim Wellnitz, Black Hawk.

Brooke Allen was an excellent all-around player for a Barneveld squad that tied for the Six Rivers-East title.  The 5-9 senior recorded over 11 points per game while contributing in every area of the game.

Rachel Brown has been a catalyst for Saint Mary Central all season and helped lead them to the WIAA state tournament.  The 5-8 senior averages over 16 points per game, including pouring in 21 points in the sectional final contest that propelled the Zephyrs to state.

Paige Butler is a repeat All-State selection, and this year has led Black Hawk to the program’s first ever state tournament appearance.  The 5-9 senior standout averaged nearly 14 points per game and was recently named the Six Rivers-East Player of the Year.

Kimee Chandler, a 5-7 junior, repeats as a Division 4 All-State performer this year.  Chandler averaged just under 17 points per game for Pecatonica this season.

Janey Emery was a do-everything player for state qualifier Siren this year.  The 5-10 senior averaged 12.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while finishing second on the team in assists and steals and leading the Dragons in blocked shots.

Shyla Kuehl stepped up her game this season to the tune of 16.4 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.  The 6-3 senior led Hustisford to a Trailways-South title and will head to North Dakota to continue her playing career.

Jamie Kok, a 6-foot junior, was a force on both ends of the court this year for Central Wisconsin Christian.  She averaged 16.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.7 steals, and 3 blocked shots per game for the Crusaders.

Jamie Vandenberg, one of the state’s best all-around athletes, is an outstanding volleyball player and will attend the University of Minnesota on a track scholarship.  On the hardwood, the 6-1 senior paced Niagara with 17.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.

Kim Wellnitz teamed with fellow All-State performer Paige Butler to give Black Hawk one of the best one-two punches in the state.  Wellnitz averaged over 12 points and 5 rebounds per game for the Warriors.

Each coach on the panel selected ten girls as all-state and two for honorable mention. All-State votes were worth two points and honorable mention votes were worth one point. The top ten vote getters were named WBCA All-State. To qualify for honorable mention a player needed 3 points in Divisions 2, 3 and 4 and 5 points in Division 1.
