WBCA All-State - Division 2 Boys

Juniors Steve Tecker of Northwestern and Austin Armga of Waupun were unanimous selections for the 2009 Division 2 WBCA All-State team.

Tecker a 6-5 wing averaged over 21 points per game this season while shooting over 60% from the field.  The junior complimented his scoring with 6.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per conference while leading the Tigers to a spotless regular season record and the school's second trip to the state tournament.

Armga scored 545 points in 21 games for the Warriors good for 24.95 points per game, second in the entire states by only a few hundredths of a percentage points.  The 6-3 guard led Waupun to the tune of 20 wins and a 13-1 conference record.

The rest of the division 2 team consisted of Derek Braucht, Madison Edgewood; Alex Culy, Rice Lake; Flavien Davis, Wisconsin Lutheran; Josh Gasser, Port Washington; Danny McKeown, Milwaukee North; Jade Royston, Wisconsin Dells;  Jimmy Sherburne, Whitefish Bay; Jack Taylor, Black River Falls; Mitch Tordoff, Monroe.  Due to a tie 11 players were awarded the honor.

Derek Braucht led Madison Edgewood to a 19-5 record and a share of the Badger-South title.  The 6-6 senior averaged 19.8 points per game for the Crusaders.

Alex Culy averaged over 17 points per game for Rice Lake, leading them to a 14-9 record.  The Michigan Tech recruit joins his brother Dan in 2007 as recent Rice Lake players awarded the honor.

Flavien Davis filled up the box score for Wisconsin Lutheran to the tune of 16 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks per game.  The 6-4 wing went for 26 points and 18 rebounds in the Vikings sectional final overtime victory over Pewaukee to give them their first WIAA state tournament birth.

Combo guard Josh Gasser put up over 22 points per game for a Port Washington team that went 16-6 on the season.  The 6-4 junior started the season with a bang going for 41 points in a 65-59 win over Catholic Memorial.

Danny McKeown was named Co-Player of the Year in the Milwaukee City conference.  McKeown carried his North team averaging close to 25 points per game, include a 50 point outburst in the Blue Devils overtime loss in the tournament to Milwaukee Lutheran.

Jade Royston led the Wisconsin Dells to a perfect conference record in the South Central and a 19-5 mark overall.  The 6-0 combo guard averaged 22 points per game for the Chiefs and provided what may have been the highlight of the playoffs when he banked in a half courter at the buzzer to defeat River Valley.  

Jimmy Sherburne was the catalyst for a Whitefish Bay team that took home the North Shore conference crown and finished the season with a 21-2 record.  The 6-3 senior averaged 16 points per game for the Blue Dukes.

Jack Taylor of Black River Falls is a repeat performer on the division 2 all-state team.  The 5-11 point guard averaged 21 points and 4 assists per game for the Tigers.

Mitch Tordoff has led Monroe to the state tournament for three consecutive years.  On the season he has averaged 18 points and close to four rebounds & assists per game for the Cheesemakers.

The voting panel for Division 2 consisted of Josh Glocke, Berlin; Todd Marks, Bloomer; Daren Sommerfeldt, Marinette; Pat Murphy, Monroe; David Scheidegger, NB Eisnerhower; Dan Cowley, Northwestern; Tim Reuter, Pewaukee; Brad Rohling, Wisconsin Dells.

Voting Process
Nominees were gathered from those players that were named first-team all-conference as well as individual coach nominations, for conferences that voted after the submission deadline. Coach panels were selected by the WBCA Division Reps. WisSports.net facilitated the nomination and voting process.

Each coach on the panel selected ten boys as all-state and two for honorable mention. All-State votes were worth two points and honorable mention votes were worth one point. The top ten vote getters were named WBCA All-State. To qualify for honorable mention a player needed 3 points in Divisions 2, 3 and 4 and 5 points in Division 1.
