WBCA All-State - Division 1 Boys

Seniors Ben Averkamp of Germantown, Jeronne Maymon of Madison Memorial and Jamil Wilson of Racine Horlick were unanimous selections for the 2009 Division 1 WBCA All-State team.

Averkamp is making his second straight appearance on the team after leading the Germantown Warhawks back to the state tournament for the second consecutive year.  The Loyola recruit averaged 18.9 points and 12 rebounds per game this season.

Maymon appears on the list for the third straight time and the second straight time unanimously.  A rugged 6-7 wing player Maymon led the Spartans to four conference titles in his four years with the program and is making his fourth consecutive trip to state as well.  Maymon, who will be suiting up for Marquette next season, averaged 17.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and over 2 assists & steals per game.

Another repeat performer on the team, Wilson has been one of the best all-around players in the state this season.  Averaging over 21 points, 10 rebounds 4 assists and 3 blocks per game the 6-7 wing he led Horlick to their first state tournament appearance since 1989.

The rest of the division 1 team consisted of Vander Blue, Madison Memorial; Antone Byrd, Milwaukee Washington; Kameron Ceronni, Sussex-Hamilton;  Nolan Free, Sheboygan North; Clayton Heuer, Wisconsin Rapids; Tank Johnson, Oshkosh North; Marquis Mason, Madison East; Nathan Zastrow, Manitowoc Lincoln; Jason Ziemer, Verona.  Because of a three way tie 12 players were awarded the honor instead of the usual 10.

Vander Blue partnered with Maymon to lead the Spartans to a 19-1 regular season record and a march to their sixth consecutive state tournament appearance.  A 6-4 guard who is as comfortable above-the-rim as he is on the perimeter, the Wisconsin recruit averaged near 17 points, 5 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals per game.

Antone Byrd shined in the role of go-to-guy for a Milwaukee Washington team that went 19-1 during the regular season and earned their first trip to state since 2001.  The 6-3 senior averaged over 20 points per game to go along with 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

Kameron Ceronni from Sussex-Hamilton receives the honor for a second straight season.  One of the top outside shooters in the state the 6-2 junior averaged nearly 22 points per game this season for the Chargers.

Nolan Free was the state's leading scorer at 25.95 points per game.  The 6-1 guard led a young Sheboygan North squad to a 11-11 record on the season.

Clayton Heuer averaged over 18 points per game for a Wisconsin Rapids team that went 14-8 on the season.  The 6-9 post player is verbally committed to play at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Tank Johnson, a bruising 6-5 power forward from Oshkosh North, averaged 19 points and 10 boards a game for the Spartans.  The Fox Valley Association player of the year helped the Spartans make their fourth appearance at the state tournament this season.

High flier Marquis Mason led Madison East to a 19-4 record on the season.  The 6-5 junior averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds per game for the Purgolders.  Mason was an honorable WBCA All-State selection last season.

Nathan Zastrow from Manitwoc Lincoln averaged 20 points per game for the Ships this season.  Zastrow, a deft point guard and solid three point shooter, will play for Division 1 North Dakota State next season.

Jason Ziemer averaged close to 23 points per game helping the Wildcats to a 15-6 record this season.  A honorable mention selection last season to the team, Ziemer closed out a solid career at Verona in which they made their first two trips to the state tournament.
